Color theory plays a large role in saltwater fly-tying patterns. Subtle or overt changes in material color on the same pattern can result in completely different baitfish limitations. If you find that a pattern was working great and then suddenly stopped working, it's time to change up the colors. In this video, Coby goes into this theory and ties up one variant of his ever-popular Boogie Minno...

Cool ❤
I noticed on the accurate 7 inch. The jaws are offset a little.
That's my name. Hehe. What a coincidence.
😂
I did not use wind-on leaders as I did not know what to do. EXCELLENT instructional video. Headed to my local tackle shop to buy some wind-on leaders!!!
Mine does not spin like that when applied, it is actually very tight? Would you know the reason why?
Strait forward and easy to understand. Thanks!
Thank you 👍🏽
i have a van staal vsx 200 and sometimes when i cast the roller will catch the line without me manually doing it it results like a closed bail how do i fix it?
You will want to make sure the spool is in the up position and the handle is in the down position, that should fix any issue!
@@SaltwaterEdge the roller still catches the line even when the spool is up and the handle is down idk what to do
Ok try making sure the line roller is on the left of the line when you cast. You may have to adjust where the line roller starts based on your casting style. Try a few different positions casting the same lure and you should find the sweet spot
@@SaltwaterEdge alright
@@SaltwaterEdge i feel like i cast like everyone else though just the avg backcast
US dollar price
for which one?
What Rod would you recommend for that stradic FM in a 3000 size?
The 3000 is a very lightweight reel so I would stick with a 7'-7'6" rod. It depends on the materials used in the rod's construction.
Very informative and thorough video. Thank you.
Screw this, just use mono and splice it to the braid using a Alberto knot.
thats one option!
Which casting rid you said up to 50lb which one do recommend 6 6 7 which Px
Great equipment overview. I’m fishing outside Tokyo in the Pacific for yellowtail, mahi, amberjack and tuna. Here, they generally recommend solid to split rings at the terminal end. I’m also using an fg knot on the leader (nylon or fluoro) and a Palomar or Centauri knot for the solid ring.
what is it really? colt sniper or current sniper? or it's just the same? box says coltsniper, but you keep saying current sniper. please clarify. thanks
Some of the older boxes still say coltsniper but the lure is now called the current sniper
@@SaltwaterEdge got it, thanks!
What do you think of the shimano slow J ttsjc66m
Bob Ross of Buck tails .👍
I have had 3 Van Staals and i will never buy another. They have discontinued the service kits and made getting parts too difficult. All links to kits and parts on their website are deactivated. I guess they think i'm dumb enough to give them another $800, because they made parts too difficult to get for the VS and VSX.Its sad how they are treating their customers.
You can always get in touch with us for parts, we can put together whatever you'd like for your reels to self service them.
@@SaltwaterEdge thanks, good to know i do have an option out there
Solid video! What sized ring and swivel for jig and pop?
Great job SWE Team presenting a wide range of pliers! Much appreciated.
Glad you liked it!
If the accuracy of your scales is + or minus 1g and your weighing 3g the accuracy is + minus a third. Thats not very accuate in my book.
Nice video, best of luck at the new location! Where is the new shop dog?
I am on second season with the Danco Premio 6.5” & they are my favorite & the best I’ve ever owned. I paired them up with a Turtle Cove carbon fiber holder.
I just got a pair of Danco stainless and the connections on the leash are sub par to put it nicely. Do you guys have any suggestions for aftermarket leashes? Thanks!
Beaver tail rod and reel makes a mean lanyard !
they make a great lanyard!
Beavertail Rod and Reel, Wave Crasher, and Evel Lanyards are all great upgrades
@@SaltwaterEdge yeah, really like that Evel lanyard. Looks great!
" It's not too pricey" for a 200.00 dollar pair of pliars ??? And the economy is doing great ! inflation is low ! And Joe Biden is doing a good job ! Come on guys, be truthful, that's how you build trust !
Hah! $200 is a lot, but for a full titanium purpose built tool that will last a lifetime its not bad. The next closest comparison is almost $400.
He was referring to the replacement cutters for those pliers, not the pliers themselves.
Got a pair of Van Staal last year for Father’s Day and they are the real deal. The cutter is awesome, but what I really like is that they aren’t super light weight…you actually feel like you have a sturdy pair of pliers in your hand. I attached a barrel swivel and a small float to mine just in case…
good call on a float! Don't want to lose those!
@@SaltwaterEdge absolutely don’t want too lose them!!
digging the danco's, new this year. seem to be holding up, line cutter is good, and a set of staal pliers are damn near 10X the price...
Are the bkk viper 2/0 4x a good buy to swap out sp minnow stock hooks?
Those are a great hook, I haven't tried it yet but if you do let me know
Where are the Okuma reels? I've used them for over a decade without any problems. ( Used a Garcia 300 in the 50's & a Daiwa SS 3000 in the 70's. My only Shimano went overboard. )
We are not a shop that carries Okuma so we could not test them. However the new saltwater reels they have come out with look nice!
new jersey here, that lc minnow in white flat out catches bass and blues, fluke too
Hey, thanks for the reviews, made my decision much easier. Stradic! I plan on using it for off shore as well as yellowtail.
Good choice!
1 last comment. I grew up with a hook file sharpening my hooks multiple times per season. Sharpness out of the box is great but maintenance is key. Thanks again for a great vid.
Thanks for sharing!
Use live bait...sardines or ballyhoo. End of story. Caught hundreds of cunt tuna (yellowfin)
Thanks for the explanation. Going with the mustad. I had a few treble's break off my lure and I lost good fish. No more brittle hooks for me.
Great video...incredibly helpful on the entire Ronz options. Appreciate the detail you put into it.
Following/Sharing. Question, are you experiencing line chafe or cutoff with the Big Game original series J- hooks vs the circle style?
Not so far, it really depends how the fish gets hooked
🌴 🤔hummm, the difference between the two ? Salt water costs three times as much if not more 😄
sealed drag
🌴 🤔 there are many colors of fly lines out now , I fish saltwater all the time do you think fly line color scares fish or should it be color matched to the color of the water in the area , it seems that the color is more fore keeping track of the direction of the fish after a hook up like with a tarpon .
Color can certainly be seen by fish in some situations, especially fish that are taking the fly from underneath. You'll see some brands doing clear heads on specific fly lines to combat that.
Peter you should really do more videos like this.Love this on.👍
The lens boosts the colors brightness MIRRORED decreases it so blue lenses are a terrible idea for a bright day
I’m sure he means blue mirror. I’m not sure there’s even such a thing as green or blue lenses. Mine are brown lenses with green mirror.
What company do you buy your hackels and ostrich from? I've been having a hard time finding good one of either of those
It varies a lot, depends on who has the best material at the time. Your best bet is to either stop by your local fly shop or if you don’t have a local one give us a call and we can send pictures of what we have and you can pick.
So cool. Too bad I don’t have a lure that small.
You can always try a casting egg or bubble popper and a fly on the end of it, works great!
Came here to see two GOATS and was not disappointed
Thats's a heck of a hand model you guys hired for the reeling slo-mo sections. Must have cost a fortune
Penn slammer 4500 for me. Had a few ultegras and a stradic and after fishing them along side slammer 3s and 4s, 3500-5500 and repairing/servicing both myself...I'll stick with the Penns.
Current walk works. No where near as good as the one with the rattle. The rod is absolutely meaningless. Shimano discontinued it.
Interesting how Shimano took the first and second choice of the presenter. Shimano makes incredible spinning reels all through their line-up.
Awesome video, ok I’d love to see more salt water geared reel reviews (inshore) that be great. However I’ve worn out 2 mq ballistics (no fault of the reels) but replacing every 2 ish yrs for being just plane shot. I’m looking at steeping to that next teir but between 300-850$ ISH it gets very muddy. Video or maybe pointer at what you recommend? For reference my Mq ballistics are 2500 w/10-12 braid and 10 leader and soft plastics only. Reds/snook. I like a semi finesse style/setups. Physical size matters to me
Well plan on making a higher end reel video too! It sounds like what you are looking for is a Van Staal VR50, those fit everything you are after
@@SaltwaterEdge that’s what I keep coming back to BUT I know the visser is an “improved” company if you will (only what I’ve read in articles) I’ve seen various concerns with the handles in various models. Should this be a concern to look at visser more ? Or just give both fair shake?
Visser looks like a very nice reel, we have looked at them but haven't fished them or serviced them yet. I'm not sure if I would call it improved, but it is a different company with some different ideas about reel design. As a VS service center I can confidently say the Gen 2 VR series are incredibly reliable. I use a VR50 for the majority of my inshore fishing, its been dunked, splashed, taken big fish and still feels/works great.
@@SaltwaterEdge awesome I deff appreciate the input and I deff think I will be hitting up my local shop that does carry them I’m pretty sold. Ty 🙏🏻
Thanks for all the great videos!
